ST. JOHN OF GOD SCHOOL - A MISSION AND TRADITION THROUGH THE DECADES Pope Benedict in his address to the Catholic University of America stated that education is central to and constitutive of the mission of the Church.
Church to proclaim the Good News..... God's revelation offers every generation the opportunity to discover the ultimate truth about its own life and the goal of history. This task is never easy; it involves the entire Christian community and motivates each generation of Christian educators to ensure that the power of God's truth permeates every dimension of the institutions they serve." Our Catholic Schools Week celebration is over for the 2008-2009 school year. Thanks to Fr. Vallone, all parents, parishioners and staff who celebrated with us! At the Tiny Tots Basketball Game, I sat beside one family who remembered that this game has been a tradition for over 40 years! They loved watching their second grade grandson play and he scored more points than his aunt did 20 years ago! Despite the snow and ice, grandparents (and other special people) came for the Open House after Mass on Friday. Many people were thrilled to visit the classrooms, see and read the work of our students in every hallway and share a quiet moment and cookie with a student. No wonder one of the third grade students stopped me in the hall and said, "Sr. Anna Marie, I love this week. It's the very best week of the year." It certainly is a FABULOUS week and one that would not be possible without the extra time and work from our teachers and staff, as well as the generous volunteering from our parents. Thank you for the work you, our parents, do to help prepare your children to be faith-filled, conscientious, hardworking students. The love discipline, and work ethic you help instill in your children in their early years are evidenced in how they live their lives and celebrate the faith. What makes our parish and school so successful are the collective prayers and work of all of us. |
